The Guys Read Too book club: Human Acts

We're here. We're guys. We read the whole book.

The Guys Read Too book club is a men's reading group, designed for, and by, men who read.

The Guys are branching out this month with internationally renowned South Korean author Han Kang's work, HUMAN ACTS.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
"In the midst of a violent student uprising in South Korea, a young boy named Dong-ho is shockingly killed. The story of this tragic episode unfolds in a sequence of interconnected chapters as the victims and the bereaved encounter suppression, denial, and the echoing agony of the massacre. From Dong-ho's best friend who meets his own fateful end; to an editor struggling against censorship; to a prisoner and a factory worker, each suffering from traumatic memories; and to Dong-ho's own grief-stricken mother; and through their collective heartbreak and acts of hope is the tale of a brutalized people in search of a voice. An award-winning, controversial bestseller, HUMAN ACTS,  is a timeless, pointillist portrait of an historic event with reverberations still being felt today, by turns tracing the harsh reality of oppression and the resounding, extraordinary poetry of humanity."

Rebel Heart Talks Books: Art VS Artist

Rebel Heart Books welcomes you to our very first session of "Rebel Heart Talks Books" our forum for discussing current issues as they relate to our daily lives as readers and booksellers.

For this meeting, we will be discussing the challenges of separating art from artist. Following a wave of #MeToo announcements that rocked the book world, we were faced with a dilemma: should we remove the books created by these problematic authors from the shelves or not? Removing titles from shelves amounts to a type of censorship abhorred in the literature community, but selling their books amounts to supporting behavior that itself is abhorrent.

We are eager to discuss the question with our community and hope you will join us!

Authors we will discuss include: Sherman Alexie, James Dashner, and Matthew Weiner.
